Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve mechanical strength, by constituting a magnetic layer of magnetic powder, of two layers, and also setting the relation between a modulus of elasticity in the tape length direction of each layer and a modulus of elasticity in the width direction, to a spacific tatio. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic painting material containing 60-90wt% magnetic powder in a binding material is applied and dried on a base film while providing an oriented magnetic field in the tape width direction, and a lower magnetic layer whose modulus of elasticity in the length direction is >=2.5 times the modulus of elasticity in the width direction is formed. Subsequently, the same magnetic painting material is applied and dried on the lower magnetic layer while providing the oriented magnetic field, an upper magnetic layer whose modulus of elasticity in the length direction is >=2.5 times the modulus of elasticity in the width direction is formed, and a magnetic recording medium whose full thickness is <=17mu is obtained. After that, it is placed on a flat plate 1, the height (h) of a tape 2 from the surface of the flat plate is measured, the extent of curling and the video sensitivity of the magnetic recording medium is measured, and consequently, the mechanical strength is improved without lowering the magnetic characteristic.
