CONSTITUTION:A magnetic painting material containing 60-90wt% magnetic powder in a binding material is applied and dried on a base film while providing an oriented magnetic field in the tape width direction, and a lower magnetic layer whose modulus of elasticity in the length direction is >=2.5 times the modulus of elasticity in the width direction is formed. Subsequently, the same magnetic painting material is applied and dried on the lower magnetic layer while providing the oriented magnetic field, an upper magnetic layer whose modulus of elasticity in the length direction is >=2.5 times the modulus of elasticity in the width direction is formed, and a magnetic recording medium whose full thickness is <=17mu is obtained.
