Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound composed mainly of Z-type compound useful as a perfume, etc., in high selectivity and yield, with single and simple operation, under mild conditions, by the reaction of an organic lithium compound with a vinyl epoxide in the presence of a metal alkoxide.
CONSTITUTION: An organic lithium compound of formula R1Li (R1 is alkyl or aralkyl which may have functional groups at the organic part), e.g. n-butyl lithium, is made to react with 3-emthyl-3,4-epoxy-butene-1 or 3,4-epoxy-butene-1 of formula I (R2 is H or CH3) in a solvent in the presence of a metal alkoxide of, e.g. formula R3OM (R3 is methyl, ethyl, cyclohexyl, benzyl, etc.; M is Li, Na, K, etc.), pref. in an inert gas atmosphere, at a temperature between -30°C and room temperature for 5minW10hr to obtain a di-substituted allyl alcohol of formula II composed mainly of Z-type compound, e.g. 2-methyl-2-octen-1-ol.
USE: Intermediate of pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and perfumes.
