Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the directional fluctuation of the tensile strength and to facilitate the continuous production, by covering one side of the matrix metallic material using fiber braided material while holding it between the other matrix material and by melt-sticking them together.
CONSTITUTION: A T shaped material 1 made of aluminum is covered by a braided material 2. After holding this with L-shaped material 3, 4 made of aluminm and with a aluminum plate 5, this is passed through the hot extruder to continuously produce a fiber reinforced metallic composite material (FRM) made of T-shaped aluminum. The direction of the fiber in the FRM is not unidirectional as that of conventional ones. The directional angle is selected to obtain as desired, and the fluctuation of the tensile and bending strengths as well as the rate of thermal expansion of the longitudinal and the transverse directions are reduced. As the braided material is flexible to expansion and constraction, the formed matrix having complicated shape is easily covered and the desired laminated corner is maintained.
