Abstract
PURPOSE: To enlarge a surface area or the like to be exposed to radiation of solar rays and to accelerate the dewatering and drying of sludge, by absorbing and penetreating moisture in sludge slurry into a flexible membrane involving a plurality of capillarity-inducing narrow gaps, e.g., a porous membrane or the like, and discharging the moisture outside a sludge bed.
CONSTITUTION: A plurarity of degummed desized yarn 20-count plain-woven cotton cloth sheets having a width of 1m and a length of a few meter, for instance, are laminated to form a strap. Expanded styrene floats 1 are attached to the peripheral part occupying about one third the total area from one edge of the strap cloth sheet and the proper central part. Thus, a plurality of dipping straps 2 are prepared and spanned across the side walls 4' of a vessel body 4 constructing a sludge bed 3, in such a manner that one end of each strap provided with the float 1 is developped and floated in the slurry 5 while the other end is extended and hung down on the outside surface of the vessel body 4 beyond the side wall 4'. Consequently, moisture in the slurry 5 is absorbed in the cloth layer by its capillarity, gradually transfered beyond the side walls 4', and discharged into side drains 6 along the outsides of the vessel body 4.
