Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful for the preparation of dyes, in high productivity and yield, without producing by-products, by sulfonating 1-amino- anthraquinone with chlorosulfonic acid, etc. in a specific organic solvent in the presence of an alkali metal (bi)sulfate.
CONSTITUTION: 1-Aminoanthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid is prepared by sulfonating 1-aminoanthraquinone with chlorosulfonic acid or sulfuric acid in a water-immiscible inert organic solvent (e.g. monochlorobenzene, esp. 1,2-dichlorobenzene, etc.). In the above reaction, an alkali metal sulfate or bisulfate (e.g. Na2SO4, K2SO4, NaHSO4, KHSO4, etc.) is added to the reaction system. The viscosity of the reaction system can be reduced remarkably by the additive, and a high quality objective compound can be obtained with low energy consumption. The amount of Na2SO4, etc. is 0.1W20%, pref. 0.3W10%, based on 1-aminoanthraquinone.
