Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a rigid foamed polyurethane having a low foaming pressure and excellent in mechanical strength and heat-insulating property by a method wherein the foam density of a raw liquid discharged in the form of foams is set to be 0.08g/cm<3> or below, and the expansion ratio achieved after the discharging is set to be 2 times or below. CONSTITUTION:An isocianate component and a polyol component, which contains a catalyst for reaction, a foam controlling agent and the like mixed thereto, are contained respectively in pressure-resistant containers. A foaming agent which is a low-boiling compound and is a gas at ordinary temperature and ordinary pressure (e.g., dichlorodifluoromethane) is supplied in its liquid state into a pipe line extended from each of the containers, in such a manner that the foam density of the raw liquid to be discharged into a mold is adjusted at 0.08g/cm<3> or below. Then, the raw liquid prepared by mixing the two components to each other is discharged into the mold, is foamed at a secondary expansion ratio of 2 times or below and is hardened. The secondary foaming is induced by water which is normally contained in the polyol on in amount of about 0;05%. Since the foaming pressure is low, there is no need for special reinforcing materials and the operation is facilitated.
