Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an accurately molded article by a method wherein a mold with a cavity being enlarged by such an amount as to exactly compensate for the size reduction arising from shinkage is obtained by producing an electroformed transfer metal mold for a plurality of times using a molded article whichis prepared by a standard metal mold, in the case of molding a camera prism.
CONSTITUTION: A molded article 11 having surfaces deformed as indicated by dotted lines is produced by an ordinary molding method while using the standard mold 9 which has a cavity 8 intended for the desired final shape of a pengagonal roof prism 1. By using the molded article 11 in electroforming, the electroformed transfer molds 14, 15 are poduced with a precision of the order of one micron or less, with an extremely thin spacer 16 provided at a cemtral part to enable the transfer molds 14, 15 to be split after electroforming. Then, the metal molds 14, 15 are separated, inverted and each of which is fitted with respective support pieces to constitute a master form. By using the master form, the second electroformed transfer mold 19 is produced, and by using the second tansfer mold 19, a mold 22 with a cavity 21 larger than the cavity 8 by such an amount as to exactly compensate for the size reduction arising form shrinkage can be obtained.
