Abstract

PURPOSE: To make the jugdement of an adequate stopping timing for charging of molten steel possible and to improve quality by picking up the images of molten steel with an optical system camera, and detecting the amt. of inclusion of slag into the molten steel in accordance with the difference in luminance between the molten metal and the slag.
CONSTITUTION: The images of the molten steel 2' in an intermediate ladle 5' and the slag floating thereon are picked up in the state of video images with a television camera 18 through a lens and an optical fiber 13, and these are converted to image electric signals which are outputted to a monitor 19 and an image processing device 20. A comparator 24 outputs a slag decision charging end signal at the point of the time when the slag area ratio electric signal from the device 20 goes larger than the slag decision area ratio setting signal 25 set beforehand in accordance with the types of steel and the required quality of the products, thereby lighting a display lamp 26 and feeding said signal to a flow rate throttling valve controller 27. A flow rate throttling valve 4 is fully closed by the slag decision charging end signal, whereby the outflow of a large amt. of the slag is prevented. Hence, the outflow of the slag is automatically and quantitatively measured, and the automation at the time of ending of the automatic control of the flow rate throttling valve is accomplished.
