Abstract

PURPOSE:To lock on the device easily and rapidly in accordance with a target or a scene to be tracked, by obtaining a curvature near the peak value of coefficients of correlation and by changing the size of a tracking window so that the value of the curvature becomes maximum. CONSTITUTION:The video signal from a pickup device 6 mounted on a servo base 5 is digitized by an A/D converting circuit 7, and horizontal and vertical pictures to be correlated are separated and extracted by a region dividing circuit 8, and respective pictures to be correlated are stored in horizonatl and vertical memories 10H and 10V by horizontal and vertical switches 9H and 9V. In case of lock on, the size of a tracking window is changed automatically by horizontal and vertical tracking window setting circuits 11H and 11V, amd coefficients of correlation are calculated by horizontal and vertical correlators 12H and 12V. Maximum values and coordinates for them are detected by maximum value detecting circuits 13H and 13V, and a curvature near the peak value is obtained by horizontal and vertical curvature detecting circuits 14H and 14V and is fed back to the circuit 8 to track a prescribed target or scene by an electronic loop.
