Abstract

PURPOSE: To kill organisms contained in sea water and thereby contrive to prevent the corrosion of plant apparatuses, prevent an overload and enhance the efficiency by a method wherein a comb-shaped screen, a grid-type electrode and filter boxes are sequentially placed in a sea-water inlet side passage in the direction of the inflow of the sea water.
CONSTITUTION: Relatively larger organisms and foreign materials contained in the sea water taken in through an intake port 1 are removed by the comb-shaped screen 8. Smaller organisms not removed by the screen 8 enter the openings of the grid- type copper plate electrode 9, where they are electrocuted because an electric current supplied from an external power source 14 passes through the sea water, and the dead organisms enter into the filter box 10 together with smaller foreign materials. Still smaller corpses or organisms and foreign materials penetrating through the box 10 are removed by the filter box 11. The condition of the corpses and foreign materials accumulated in the filter boxes 10, 11 is detected by a differential pressure gauge 21, pure water is periodically jetted from a high-pressure nozzle 16 for washing, a gate valve 19 is opened and a discharge pump 5 is operated to discharge the corpses and foreign materials into a discharge port 6 through a corpse intake port 17.
