PURPOSE:To realize the accurate compensation for the inclination of a document, by extracting the differential absolute value of the cumulative value on the scanning lines adjacent to each other through a differential absolute value extracting part and then extracting the sum of the differential absolute value through a differential absolute value sum extracting part respectively to obtain the difference of sum. CONSTITUTION:The quantization density value of a picture element obtained through a raster scan is added to a register 11. When a piece of raster scan is over, the absolure value of differential is obtained through a differential absolute value circuit 12 between the register 11 and a buffer memory 13 which holds the density cumulative value preceding by a scan. This absolute value is added to a register 14, and at the same time the contents of the register 11 is written into the memory 13 to clear the register 11. When the raster scan is over for the entire screen, the contents of the register 14 is stored in a memory 15 to clear the register 14. Based on the contents of the memory 15, an angle compensator 16 gives the rotation to the actual screen so as to obtain the maximum density cumulative value differential absolute value sum.
