Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily assure the installation space for a buffer applied to the suspension of a motorcycle, by providing a fixed wall with a by-pass for a main passage for causing working oil to flow. CONSTITUTION:A hydraulic buffer comprises an oil chamber (a) containing working oil, a gas chamber (b) containing inert gas and a fixed wall 5 provided between a piston 4 and a movable wall (b). The fixed wall 5 is provided with a by-pass 13 and main passages 7, 8 for causing the working oil to flow. The fixed wall 5 is provided with a valve member 16 to control the flow rate of the working oil in the by-pass 13. The valve member 16 is moved back or forthe to adjust the opening of an orifice to finely control thecharacteristic of damping force a the stroke of compression. Since the by-pass 13 is provided without increasing the outside diameter of the body of the buffer, its installation space is easily assured.
