Abstract

PURPOSE:To effectively remove carbon from the outer periphery of an exhaust valve in an engine a rotatable exhaust valve is provided in a recess formed on the inner surface of an exhaust passage to vary the exhaust timing by the telescopic movements of the valve to an exhaust port by forming a carbon combustion catalyst on the outer periphery of the valve. CONSTITUTION:An exhaust valve 13 is rotatably displaced in response to the rotating speed of an engine, is rotated so that an extension 26 advances into an exhaust gas passage 9, as whown, for example, by broken lines at a low speed rotating time, and the upper edge of the hole of an exhaust port 10 is closed. In this state, the exhaust port 10 is closed earlier upon rising of the piston 2, while the port is opened later upon falling of the piston 2, thereby tending to delay the exhaust timing. In such a structure, a mounting groove 28 is formed on the predetermined outer peripheral surface of the extension 26 of the valve 13 to contain a holder 29 made of ceramic or the like in the groove 28. A catalyst 30 made, for example, of platinum series powder is attached to the outer peripheral surface of the holder 29.
