Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect gas and smoke at the same time, by inserting a combustible gas detection element and a pair of a light fibers into a cap for preventing explosion not transmitting light but passing through the gas freely and connecting a luminous body with the one hand and connecting a photodetecting body with the other hand and then, detecting the smoke optically. CONSTITUTION:Optical fibers 4, 4' are positioned at right angles to each other in a sintered metallic cap 3 having the function of preventing explosion and not transmitting light but passing through gas freely and the fiber 4 is connected with a luminous part 1 and then, the fiber 4' is connected with a photodetecting part 2. Further, a gas detection element equipped with a gas sensitive body 5 and a heater 6 for heating, is provided in the cap 3. Convection of air in and out of the cap 3 is accelerated by the heater 6 heating the body 5 and the light from the part 1 passing through the fiber 4 is scattered by smoke entered the cap 3 and then, scattered light is detected by the part 2 through the fiber 4'. Thus, the smoke and gas are rapidly detected at the same time by one element.
