Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect the failure of blast furnace tuyeres before it occurs or while it is slight by installing optical fiber cables mounted with light condensers at their leading ends in the water jacket of the tuyere and measuring the quantity of light in detecting parts. CONSTITUTION:Plural pieces of optical fiber cables 4 having light condenser 3 at their leading ends are installed in the water jacket 2 of a tuyere 1, and are connected to a photodetector 5. Since the light condensed by the condensers 3 is conducted to the photodetector 5 by means of the cables 4, it hardly attenuates. A detecting element such as thermopile is used for the photodetector 5. This photodetector 5 outputs an electric signal increasing or decreasing according to the quantity of light and therefore if an alarm means is triggered when said value attains a prescribed threshold value, the failure of the tuyere is detected before it occurs or while it is slight. Hence, prescribed measure against this is taken before it results in a vital accident.
