Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate the need for the detection voltage between the overhead line and the rail by a method wherein gate signals are sent to thyristors, which are connected in anti-parallel, when the both currents of the thyristors are below the predetermined value and stopped to be sent when the currents are above the predetermined value at the electric railway in which direct current feed system is employed.
CONSTITUTION: Semiconductor switches 16 and 17, in each of which the thyristor elements are connected in anti-parallel, are connected to the sections 1 and 2 which constitute the ends of feeder section adjacent to each other. The gate signals are at first sent to the thyristors of both directions in the semiconductor switch 16, to the section 1 of which are electric vehicle approaches. The current having the direction generated due to vehicle approach is detected and the gate signal to be sent to the thyristor, the current flowing direction of which is opposite to that generated due to vehicle approach, is stopped and at the same time the gate signal is sent to the thyristors of the semiconductor 17 connected to the section 2, to which the electric vehicle approaches afterwards. According to the method described above, because the cut-off of the current of a vehicle is unnecessary and yet the running current is detected to stop the gate signal of the thyristor, the current flowing direction of which is opposite to that detected, an abnormal current can be prevented from flowing in the feeder section.
