Abstract

PURPOSE:To form a water channel having higher cooling effect and dimension accuracy by casting an enclosed hollow member into a cylinder wall placed between cylinder bors and then doilling holes on this hollow member. CONSTITUTION:When manufacturing a core 3 of a water jacket, an enclosed hollow member 2 made of carbon steel used for machine structure is arranged in a place forming a cylinder wall between bores and a cylinder block 1 is fabricated according to the conventional casting procedure. With mechanical work, holes are drilled through the hollow member 2 from the upper surface of the cylinder block 1 in such a manner that the holes 22 are communicated to water jackets 13. Therefore, a water channel having a high dimension accuracy and cooling effect can be formed by casting the hollow member into the cylinder wall between the cylinder bores.
