Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the excessive momentary current flowing to a protective element and enable to miniaturize the capacity of the protective element for the subject transistor inverter by a method wherein a capacitor is connected in parallel to a nonlinear protective element which was connected in between the collector and the emitter on a transistor. CONSTITUTION:The transistor inverter consists of a DC power source 1, transistors Tr3 and 4 which will be turned to ON and OFF alternately, a capacitor 11, diodes 12 and 13, and a transformer 2 and the output of the transformer 2 is supplied to the load (for example, a discharge lamp) 8. When an overvoltage is generated at the time of starting and load variation of the load 8, the overvoltage is bypassed through the intermediary of the primary winding 2a of the transformer 2, the diode 12 or 13, the nonlinear protective element 14 and the parallel circuit of a capacitor 15, and the Tr3 and 4 are protected. At this time, the capacitor 15 works on the steep rise section of the overvoltage, absorbs the excessive momentary current and reduces the capacity of the protective element 14.
