Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a thermoplastic polyurethane excellent in tensile strength, tear strength, etc., at low cost, by adding polycaprolactonediol as an improver to polyoxypropylene glycol and emplying the mixture as the polyol component.
CONSTITUTION: The following components are emplyed as the principal materials: (A) a diol consisting of 75W90wt% polyoxypropylene glycol, MW1,000W3,000, and 25W10wt% polycaprolactonediol, MW600W4,000, (B) a chain extender consisting of a low-MW diol, e.g., propylene glycol or 1,2-butanediol, (C) a diisocyanate compound, e.g., tolylene diisocyanate or diphenylmethane diisocyanate. Next, the principal materials are reacted under conditions providing a weight ratio, component A/(components B+ component C), of 0.35W0.65, and an isocyanate index of 0.9W1.1 to obtain the thermoplastic polyurethane of the purpose.
