Abstract

PURPOSE:To gasify paper contained in kitchen refuse, by converting volatile aliphatic acids, obtained by anaerobic digestion of paper-contg. kitchen refuse, and slurry, obtained by saccharifying paper after solid-liquid separation with digestive bacteria, into methane and carbonic acid gases with obligate anaerobe. CONSTITUTION:Paper-contg. kitchen refuse is crushed, mixed with water and formed into slurry. Facultative anaerobic bacteria are then added to the slurry to convert easily decomposable high molecules into voltatile aliphatic acids. Thereafter, the fermented slurry is separated into paper-contg. remnants and volatile aliphatic acid-contg. liquid. The paper-contg. remnants are mixed with water and formed into slurry. The paper in the slurry is then saccharified and converted into volatile aliphatic acids by addition to liquefying bacteria having a cellulase activity under an anaerobic condition. To the volatile aliphatic acid-cong. liquids obtained in the said two steps is added obligate anaerobe, so that the aliphatic acids are converted into methane gas and carbonic acid gas. According to the method aforementioned, not only easily decomposable organic substances but also paper in the kitchen stuff can be gasified.
