Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent a defect, such as exfoliations of a covering film, breakage of the covering film, etc., at the time of coiling and to form a spring with an excellent corrosion resistance and heat resisting property after the spring is formed, by using a knocking pin of the specified shape and dimension for the automatic coiling machine.
CONSTITUTION: An automatic coiling machine 6 is provided with a mandrel 7 and a knocking pin 8, and forms coiled springs by knocking the knocking pin 8 against a steel wire 1 advancing along the mandrel 7. This knocking pin 8 is constituted to have a curved surface whose diameter is equal to that of the coil D, and an arc channel having a cross section whose diameter is euqal to the diameter (d) of the steel wire in the curved surface, and moreover, when the length of the arc of the cross section of the channel is expressed as πD/K1 and the length of the channel in the direction of the length is expressed as πD/K2, both of them satisfy the following relationship: K1K2<0.94σfD/d, where K1 and K2 are coefficients and σf is the compressive strength (kg/mm2) of the fluoroplastics.
