Abstract
PURPOSE: To detect the inclusion of air into an arc part directly, accurately, and quickly by detecting the intensity of the spectral lines of nitrogen in particular released from the arc.
CONSTITUTION: The intensity of the nitrogen spectral lines of the specific wavelength region where detection sensitivity to air inclusion is high released from the welding arc is detected with the intensity of the background lines near the same or the intensity of the spectral lines of the arc constituting components as a reference. If this welding arc is a TIG arc, the peak line and the like of a shielding gas are used. Thence, said detected value is compared with the preset reference value, whereby the air inclusion into the arc part is detected directly, accurately and quickly. It is preferable to detect the intensity of the nitrogen spectral lines particularly in terms of a ratio with the background value near the wavelength thereof or the intensity value of the spectral of the arc constituting components as a reference. Out of the spectral lines of N, the wavelength region near 4630.6Å or 5679.6Å is optimum because there are less disturbing lines and the intensity is higher than the spectral lines of other wavelength regions.
