Abstract

PURPOSE: To simplify the structure of a magnetic bearing to improve its economy and producibility, by controlling power fed in exciting coils of the bearing through change in the amount of light received due to displacement of a light shield attached to a rotary shaft.
CONSTITUTION: A displacement signal processing circuit 9 controls power fed in exciting coils 12, 13 of a magnetic bearing through a change in the amount of light received due to displacement of a light shield 14 attached to a rotary shaft 15. The light shield 14 increases or decreases the amount of light beams 4 deflected in the opposite directions by a deflector 5 in accordance with the axial displacement of the shaft 15, which causes a change in output signals of a photo cell or photo-transistor 7, 8 for detecting any axial displacement of the shaft 15 by means of the circuit 9 receiving the output. Since the photo cell 7 and photo-transistor 8 are placed in the opposite directions (180°) to each other, their inclination, if any, with relation to the shaft 15 can be corrected by the circuit 9.
