Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the dispersing property and wear resistance of magnetic material by using a binder which is obtained from a macromolecular polyol including polycaprolacton polyol, low molecular polyol having >=3 functional groups, and aromatic polyisocyanate through reaction. CONSTITUTION:Polyurethane is manufactured by reacting mixed poyol A including macromolecular polyol A1 of 200-2,000 equivalent including >=50wt% polycaprolacton polyol and low molecular polyol A2 including 1-40 equivalent % of low molecular polyol of >=3 functional groups (such as trimethylolpropane) with aromatic polyisocyanate. The equivalent of the polyol A is taken as 100-1,750 and the equivalent ratio NCO/OH of the polyisocyanate and polyol A is taken as 0.6-1.5. The magnetic substance layer is formed by using this polyurethane resin as a binder. Thus, magnetic recording media excellent in dispersing property of magnetic powder, smoothness, scratch resistance and hydrolysis resistance can be obtd.
