Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a poly)organosilazane) having excellent resistance to heat, weather and chemicals and insulating properties, by subjecting a specified linear or cyclic organosilazane to plasma irradiation.
CONSTITUTION: A linear organosilazane of formula I (wherein R1W7 are each H, an org. or inorg. substituent) and/or cyclic organosilazane of formula II (wherein n is 2W4) are/is placed in a glass reactor. The pressure of the reactor is reduced to 0.0001W100Torr in order to vaporize part of the organosilazane. Then 20W 1,000W power is applied to a plasma-generating apparatus equipped with a tuning circuit of 90kHzW13.56MNz. The organosilazane is irradiated with plasma generated to polymerize it. The resulting poly(organosilazane) is dissolved in a solvent such as benzene or toluene and left to stand for a few days or more to subject the polymer to post-polymerization.
