Abstract

PURPOSE:To economically form a metal vapor deposited pattern rich in gloss by a method wherein a pattern layer of a water soluble resin is formed on a surface of a substrate and a metal is vapor deposited thereon and, thereafter, washing is carried out. CONSTITUTION:On the surface of a substrate 1 made of glass or plastics or the like, a pattern layer 2 is formed by using a water soluble resin such as polyvinyl alcohol or the like according to a printing process, a hand drawing process or the like. Subsequently, on a total surface of said substrate 1, a vapor deposited layer 3 of a metal such as Al or the like is uniformly formed. Next, a surface of the resultant metal vapor deposited layer 3 is wahsed by water and water is permeated into the pattern layer 2 from pinholes or the like of the vapor deposited layer 3 to remove the pattern layer 2 and the metal vapor deposited layer 3' on said pattern layer 2 together. Thereby, a molded object 4 to which a picture pattern is formed by picture pattern like vapor deposited patterns M1, M2 due to the metal vapor deposited layer 3. By this method, the amount of a metal to be used is made less and a cost is reduced.
