PURPOSE:To obtain a lightweight, high-performance lens system by employing a plastic lens, whose at least one surface of refractive surface is aspherical, in the 1st lens group and arranging the 2nd group and other groups while leaving a variable air gap. CONSTITUTION:This lens system consists of the 1st lens group F which has positive refracting power and includes a plastic lens and a rear group R. The rear lens group R consists of a variator V, a compensator C, and a master lens M. The 1st negative lens and 2nd positive lens in the 1st lens group are plastic ones, and the 2nd and 3rd surfaces are made aspherical, thus realizing high performance. For the 1st lens group, a condition is established as shown by the inequality, on-axis chromatic aberration, aberration variations, and other aberrations are corrected. In the inequality, fI is the focal length of the 1st lens group, and fN that of the negative lens in the 1st lens group.
