PURPOSE:To shorten the time required for compressing plural sheets of pictures, by compressing a common part only once in case of compressing plural sheets of picture information having the common part. CONSTITUTION:A picture compressing means 1 inputs picture information (a) from a main memory device of a computer, and outputs output compressing information (b) to the main memory device. Compressing information common to plural sheets of picture information which has compressed only a common part of the picture is stored in a compressing information storing means 2. This stored compressing information (c) or the compressing information outputted by the picture compressing means 1 is inputted to a compressing information coupling means 3 by designation of a computer. In this case, in case when there is a compressing information inputted previously relating to one sheet of picture information, compressing information inputted later is coupled as compressing information of continuous picture information, and the output compressing information (b) is outputted to the main memory device.
