Abstract
PURPOSE: To equalize the flow rate of water in the surface of a filter layer and avoid the accumulation of suspended substances by reducing the thickness of coarse sand layer of the filter layer consisting of the uniform coarse sand layer and an overlaying gravel layer toward the farther part of the intake port.
CONSTITUTION: A filter 7 is built up by filling uniform coarse sand 5 in a pit digged in part of the sea bed ground 3 and keeping gravel 6 on the coarse sand 5. The thickness ts of the coarse sand 5 layer is set up so as to meet the relationship ts.α.1/r (where r is a distance from the center o of an intake port). In order to partition the filter 7, the foundation 8 of concrete strut is buried under the sea bed ground 3, an intake cylinder strut 9 is constructed on the foundation 8, and an intake cylinder 10 is provided on the intake cylinder strut 9 in such a way that its lower end portion is opened.
