Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent necking from occuring in a flange part during roll forming by cooling the weld heat affected zone formed in a welding process for production of wheel rims for automobiles by means of cooling fluid in a trimmer process. CONSTITUTION:A steel plate is formed to an annular shape and its butt parts are welded to a torus shape, after which weld beads are trimmed and the plate is roll formed, whereby a wheel rim for automobiles is produced. In removing cast fins 9 produced in the weld zone 8 of a rim 7 in this case, cooling fluid such as water is ejected from ejection ports 4 of cooling fluid pipes 3 mounted to a tool 2 to cool the trimmer tool 2 and the weld heat affected zone of the rim 7, thereby preventing the heat affected zone from remaining as a softened area. Since the weld heat affected zone is prevented from being softened, the formation of a necked part occurring in the stretching of the steel blank material in the rim flange part is obviated, and the wheel rim for automobiles is produced in high yields.
