Abstract

PURPOSE: To break ingates and to mend the traces for ingates of cast balls for grinding without requiring the operator's labor by charging said balls together with auxiliary balls into a cooling drum.
CONSTITUTION: Grinding balls 1 cast with a casting device 2 are charged in a cooling drum 4 in the state of high temp. after disassembling of flasks. At this time, auxiliary balls 6 of diameters larger than those of the balls 1 are mixed with the balls for grinding. In the drum 4, the balls 1 collide against themselves and the balls 6 to each other, by which the ingates of the balls 1 are broken. At this same intant, the traces for the ingates are also broken off by the mutual collision and their projecting parts are removed, whereby said traces are mended.
