Abstract

PURPOSE:To shorten a copying time by detecting even a thick original like a book and by performing exposure simultaneously with the detection by detecting an original size by a sensor moving relatively to the original and by feeding transfer paper corresponding to the size. CONSTITUTION:On a scanning bracket 9, an exposure light source 6 and an original size sensor 10 consisting of a light emitting element and a photodetecting element are provided. In paper storage containers 26-29 of a transfer paper supplier 21, sheets of paper of B5, A4, B4, and A3 sizes are contained and paper feed rolls 30-33 are provided corresponding to them. Simultaneously with exposure, the sensor 10 outputs a signal indicating the size of an original and a central control circuit discriminates the size of the original to operate the corresponding paper storage containers 26-29 selectively by selecting one of paper feed rolls 30-33. Consequently, a thick original like a book is detected and the original size is detected simultaneously with the exposure, so a transfer time is shortened.
