Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a mold for continuous casting of less curving deformations owing to thermal expansion of long side plates and short side plates by disposing corner molds which are supported freely movably forward and backward in prescribed directions and correspond to the beveled parts of an ingot to the four corners of the mold arranging a pair of the long side plates and a pair of the short side plates oppositely to each other.
CONSTITUTION: A pair of long side plates 1, 1 and a pair of short side plates 5, 5 are disposed oppositely respectively at suitable spacings and respective cooling boxes 4, 8 are fixed to a vibration table. Corner molds 9 provided with corner surfaces 10 corresponding to the beveled parts of an ingot are supported freely movably forward and backward by means of elastic supporting devices 11 while their two faces are held abutted on the side end faces 2 of the long-side plates and the side end faces 6 of the short-side plates. If continuous casting is carried out with such mold, the plates 1 expand in the directions of arrows 20 and the plates 5 in the directions of arrows 21 respectively by the effect of the heat of the molten steel. In accordance with this expansion, the corner molds 9 are pressed respectively by the side end faces 2, 6 to be retreated in the directions of arrows 22, whereby the rates of expansion of the plates 1 and the plates 5 are absorbed. Hence, the curving deformations of the plates 1 and the plates 5 are minimized and the respective surfaces of the resultant solidified shell are formed to a flat shape.
