Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled polymer without causing coloraton for deteriorating the heat resistance, by chlorosulfonating a polyolefin dissolved in carbon tetrachloride, concentrating the reaction solution in an agitating thin film evaporator, and drying the resultant reaction solution in a vented extruding dryer under specific conditions.
CONSTITUTION: A polyolefin, e.g. polyhetylene, is dissolved in carbon tetrachloride and chlorosulfonated, and the resultant reaction solution is then fed from a feed inlet 2 of a reaction solution to an agitating thin film evaporator 1 and concentrated to a polymer concentration of 30W70wt%. The resultant concentrated solution is then passed through a pipe 4 to a vented extruding dryer 5 having venting holes 6, 7 and 8. The temperature of an external jacket covering the feeding part of the dryer 5 where the polymer concentration is less than 90wt% is adjusted to 100W170°C, and the external jacket covering the discharging part of the dryer 5 where the polymer concentration exceeds 90wt% is adjusted to 20W70°C to reduce the volatile content in the polymer to 1.8wt% or below. The dried polymer is then extruded through a die 9 and taken out of a taking out port 10.
