Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the amount of consumption of seal gas by inserting a probe into a metal-smelting furnace in such a manner that the molten-metal temperature measuring body and sample flow-in orifice thereof are positioned apart from the rising flow of bubbles of the seal gas. CONSTITUTION:At the time of push-in operation of the probe 3, the seal gas is jetted from a gas-introducing pipe 11 into an insertion tube 2 and, flowing along the probe 3 and a piston rod 22 and through a tubular body 5, is jetted out into a converter 1. The probe 3 is inserted deeper into the converter 1 than the rising flow 23 of the bubbles thereof and, in addition, is arranged so that the molten- metal temperature measuring body 25 and the sample flow-in orifice 21 be positioned above. Accordingly, the rising flow 23 of the bubbles of seal gas does not run through the vicinity of the sample flow-in orifice 21, while molten metal 9 in the converter 1 flows easily into a sampling chamber 20 from the sample flow-in orifice 21. By such a constitution, the insertion tube can be made small in diameter and, according to this, the amount of consumption of seal gas can be reduced.
