Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the number of standard patterns and to decrease the effect of size and position of characters, by running a scanning line toward X and Y directions in an effective area of characers and checking the cross points in each area when the area is separated into left and right, and up and down. CONSTITUTION:The cross-points toward X directional scanning lines at both areas separated into left and right, and those of Y directional scanning line of both the areas, are respectively obtained for coding and four characteristic patterns are formed and compared with the standard pattern. For example, a figure ''5'' is surrounded with an effective area to run 9 scanning lines toward X and Y. In the areas of left half Yl and right half Yr, the number of cross points to X directional scanning lines are obtained respectively and two characteristic patterns are formed. Similarly, this is done for upper and lower areas, 4 characteristic patterns are formed and compared with the standard pattern for the recognition of characters.
