Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance space efficiency and permit variable magnificatio as well by constituting an imagery optical system by combining refractive index focusing type slab-shaped optical waveguides having variable magnification characteristics respectively in an x-axis direction and a y-axis direction within the orthogonally intersecting plane of optical axis. CONSTITUTION:An optical waveguide 4 having variable magnification characteristics in a y-axis direction and an optical guide 5 having variable magnification characteristics in an x-axis direction are disposed on the same optical axis between an original K and a photoreceptor P. The optical waveguide 4 forms an intermediate image 23 reducing the image 2'' of the original K in the y-axis direction onto space, and this image 23 is reduced in the x-axis direction by the waveguide 5 and is formed as an image 3'' on the photoreceptor P. With such constitution, the waveguides 4, 5 per se are compact, and therefore, the variable magnification copying machine of high space efficiency is obtained.
