Abstract

PURPOSE:To contrive improvement in both probing resolving-power and probing efficiency, by a method wherein all of the reception signals corresponding to a plurality of directive reception beams respectively are displayed on the same screen in a sweep manner. CONSTITUTION:An ultrasonic pulse having a pattern 2 is transmitted through a transmitter 6 and a senar transmitter-receiver 4 located at a position 1a. Then, the sonar transmitter-receiver 4, at a position 1b, having moved with a ship or the like receives a plurality of reflected ultrasonic waves having sharp reception-directive beam patterns 3a, 3b.... The reception corresponding to the respective patterns 3a... are amplified in corresponding reception signal amplifiers 7a... and applied through a multiplexer 8 to a display device 9 to display all the reception signals on the same screen in a sweep manner. Thereby, it substantially equals to a probing by a plurality of side-looking sonars. Accordingly, it is possible to contrive improvement in both probing resolving-power and probing efficiency.
