Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the separation of the right and left channels of an FM stereophonic broadcast by maintaining a correct phase relation between a pilot signal and the carrier of a stereophonic subchannel which are contained in a stereophonic composite signal. CONSTITUTION:The output of a 76kHz oscillator 1 is converted into a 38kHz driving signal through the frequency division of a frequency divider 2 and a switch circuit 3 is driven to convert a left and a right audio signal into a stereophonic composite signal. From part of the output of the frequency divider 2, a switch circuit 3' having a delay time equal to the switch circuit 3 removes a difference in delay time between the stereophonic composite signal and a pilot signal. The output of the switch circuit 3' is converted into a pilot signal, having a correct phase relation, by an automatic phase controlling circuit consisting of a frequency divider 4, a phase comparator 8, a voltage-controlled oscillator 5, a frequency divider 6, and a low-pass filter 7 and the pilot signal is superposed upon the stereophonic composite signal by a synthesizing circuit 9.
