Abstract

PURPOSE:To miniaturize a device by enabling the batch switching of many groups of optical fibers through simple operation by arranging one group of aligned optical fibers opposite to groups of aligned optical fibers so that they are movable relatively and freely. CONSTITUTION:Groups 1 and 1' of optical fibers are installed in the parallel grooves 7 of an array base plate 6 and superposed mutually across a spacer 8. Similarly, an optical fiber group 2 is installed in the array base plate 9 and fixed by a lid body 11, and it is arranged opposite to the fiber groups 1 and 1' so that it is movable relatively and freely. In this case, the tip parts of the fiber groups 1 and 1' are arranged projecting from the spacer 8 and array base plate 9. Then, the array base plate 9 is swung up and down to fit the tips of the fiber group 2 in the upper and lower parallel groups 7, and fiber connection points are switched. Consequently, many groups of optical fibers are switched through simple operation and while the reliability of the system is improved, the size of the system is reduced.
