Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect the toner amount around a wire by providing diaphragms mounted in one body to electrostrictive elemnts to both ends of the wire, applying voltage to the one electrostrictive element to vibrate the wire and detecting the voltage generated in the other electrostrictive element. CONSTITUTION:A wire 4 is installed in a toner container, and both ends of said wire 4 are secured respectively to a diaphragm 3 mounted in one body to an oscillating element 2 and a diaphragm 6 mounted in one body to a vibration receiving element 7. Voltage of prescribed frequency is applied to the element 2 to vibrate the wire 4, and the voltage generated in the element 7 is detected. At this time, a voltage difference is generated in the output of the element 7 depending upon whether the wire 4 is within the toner or air, and therefore the presence or absence of the toner is judged by detecting this difference. Then, the need for cleaning means of the detecting elements is eliminated, and the change in the properties of the toner by the effect of heat does not occur.
