Abstract

PURPOSE: To accelerate the melting of pig iron or steel scraps and the oxidation reaction of the chemical components in steel to the steel of good quality by blowing carbon by means of a gas into the steel in a molten state in production process.
CONSTITUTION: When steel is in a molten state in the production process for steel, carbon grains or carbon powder of ≤3mm grain sizes is blown into said steel by using air or inert gas of 2W5kg/cm2 as a carrier gas. The blown carbon is caused to react directly with the oxygen in the steel and the produced CO is released to the outside of the system. In this case, the yield of the carbon in the steel is high and it is possible to cause chemical reaction properly with the oxygen in the steel, that is, to perform deoxidation, by suitably selecting an oxygen blowing timing. Hence, the oxygen concn. in the steel is maintained near theoretical value, and is further increased positively.
