Abstract

PURPOSE: When a liquid raw material is polymerized into fine particles of the product, an oppositely rotating two-shaft paddle mixer is used to change shear force automatically corresponding to phase changes to produce high-quality polymer continuously.
CONSTITUTION: When a liquid raw material such as trioxane is continuously polymerized into fine particles of solid product, the raw material is fed from inlet 10 at one end of the mixer 1. The raw material passes through the gap 2 between paddles 5, 6 that are set on the oppositely rotating shafts 3, 4 so that one long-axis end of one paddle comes close to one short-axis end of the other paddle periodically and the barrel 9 coming close to the outer peripheries of these paddles while it is polymerizing. When the above paddles come close, mixing action in upward and downward directions and shearing action work in the two parts divided with the imaginative boundary surface between the two shafts to form the reaction product of fine particles, which is taken out of the outlet 11 continuously.
