Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain an attenuator of stable attenuation characteristics for optical fibers by constituting the attenuator for optical fibers of a core colored by radiation irradiation and a clad colored more than this. CONSTITUTION:A core of a high loss optical fiber is formed of borosilicate glass, and the clad 2 of the glass prepd. by doping a small amount of ZnO in said glass. After gamma-rays using Co 60 as a radiation source are irradiated at a constant dose to this optical fiber, it is heat treated for 5hr at 120 deg.C. Thereby, the attenuator of stable attenuation characteristics for optical fibers is obtained.
