Abstract

PURPOSE: Monofilament for brushes that is composed of polyundecamethylene adipamide, thus having improved flexibility and elastic recovery without any adverse effect on excellent properties inherent to nylon, high flex recovery, dimensional stability and heat resistance.
CONSTITUTION: A polyamide containing undecamethylne adipamide as the major structural unit is, e.g., melt-spun, cooled with water, and drawn in a hot water bath of 70W100°C 3W5 times in length. Then, the filament is heat treated at 150W200°C for 30W120sec and dipped in a water bath of 50W100°C under relaxation to produce the objective monofilament. Polyundecamethylene adipamide (nylon 11.6) is produced by melt polymerization of an equimolar salt of undecamethylenediamonium adipate.
