Abstract

PURPOSE: An oil-adsorbing material useful for adsorbing and removing an oil floating on or suspending in water, and releasing no oil once adsorbed, which comprises a base material consisting of a styrene-butadiene block copolymer.
CONSTITUTION: A styrene-butadiene block copolymer is expanded to such as extent that 30W100 mesh foam is contained and then crushed into a 30W100 mesh particle. The expanded polymer crushed is charged into a metal mold and heated at 100W 150°C for 30W90min, to obtain a partially calcined porous mat-like, spherical or bulk oil adsorbent having a large number of closed and open cells.
EFFECT: Said adsorbent has high adsorption ratio and rate and, after adsorbing oil. it becomes a rubber-like lump, which never release the oil even when it is compressed or exposed to rain water by being placed in the open air.
