Abstract

PURPOSE:To correct the position shift of a data head while neither using a special head nor limiting data length, by storing the position shift of the data head detected through reading out alignment information from each data disk. CONSTITUTION:In respective data disk surfaces 20-1-20-3, alignment tracks which correspond to specific servo tracks of a servo disk surface 20-4 are provided. When a servo head 24 is located on the said servo track, each data head 21 reads alignment information from the alignment track to detect the position shift of the data head, which is stored in storing circuit 33a-33c. When the data head 21 is to be positioned on a desired data track, correction is made corresponding to the extent of the said stored position shift and positioning is done. For example, a circuit including a servo signal demodulating circuit 43, an adding amplifier 42, etc., as shown in the figure is used to perform the said positioning.
