Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a long-bristled magnetic brush easily controllable and to form a superior image, by holding a developing agent containing a low conductivity magnetic carrier and a high conductivity magnetic carrier larger than the former in size on a magnetic developing roller in layers. CONSTITUTION:A developer contains a magnetic carrier 1 made of methyl terpolymer-coated iron powder or the like, having 60mu diameter and about 10<-12>OMEGA/cm low conductivity in sigma, and a magnetic carrier 2, such as iron oxide powder, having 100mu diameter and about 10<-9>OMEGA/cm high conductivity in sigma, and a magnetic brush consisting of 3 layers of a layer A of the carrier 2, a mixed layer B of the carrier 2 and a magnetic toner, and the carrier 1 is formed in the order from a sleeve 4 side, using a magnetic developing roller, thus permitting the bristles of the magnetic brush to be lengthened to about 5mm., the carrier 1 to prevent leakage of developing bias voltage and to enhance an electrode effect, therefore, deterioration of image quality due to change of the resistance of the developer with the lapse of time to be improved, and an always excellent image to be obtained.
