Abstract

PURPOSE:To safely and easily dermine the degree of cross-linking or valcanization of rubber or plastic material in a short time, by measuring the deformation amount of sample by putting the sample in a heat machine analysis-measuring apparatus and repeating loading and unloading for a constant time. CONSTITUTION:A small piece is cut from rubber, plastic products such as an insulating material of electric wire, cable, sheet or film, and this sample is set on measuring apparatus of heat machine analysis. Next, when the sample is a crystalline polymer, the polymer is heated and is maintained at a higher temp. than a crystal disappearing temperature and a crystalline part is completely molten. Then, a load of constant weight is given for a given time so that about 0.1- 3.0% deformation is generated. The load is removed after giving the weight for a certain time and left as it is for a certain time. The amount of deformation is recorded as a function of time by repeating this operation. The amt. of the restored deformation (a) and the amt. of the deformation (b) are found from the record chart, and a rate of deformations or a rate of creep deformation is calculated therefrom. The degree of bridge formation or valcanization is decided from these values and a calibration curve which has been preliminaryly found with regard to the degree of cross-linking or degree of vulcanization.
