Abstract

PURPOSE: To accomplish continuous seam welding, by moving a roller electrode until a portion of the wall of a header pipe is curved inward, and restoring the curvature by hydraulic test in putting two thin plates formed with walls of the header pipe together by way of seam welding.
CONSTITUTION: A wall 27 constituting a header pipe, swelled outward to form a smooth curve, is formed on a thin plate 26 by use of a press, and similarly, another thin plate 28 is formed with a header pipe constituting wall 29 which is also curved outward. These two thin plates 26, 28 are put together in the manner that the walls 27, 29 constituting the header pipe are aligned correctly, and then they are placed on a fixed electrode 25. In this state, a roller electrode 24 is moved on the thin plate 26 for seam welding the partition 32 between adjacent two water passages and also forming a curved surface 35 at one side of the header pipe constituting wall 27. Then, it is subjected to hydraulic test. By the hydraulic test, the curved surface 35 of wall 27 is brought back to its original position and constitutes a header pipe. Thus, it is enabled to accomplish seam welding along the entire length of the apparatus.
